Everyone knows that I love the Brewers with an endless and undying passion. They are a part of me. When they’re here and I’m at the game, I’m so happy! When they’re on the road, I miss them terribly. And in the offseason, well, I don’t want to talk about that. The void is tremendous.
There are fans who understand this love for, not only the team, but also the players…well, most of the players anyway . But some people, including my husband at times, do not understand the endless Brewerlove that consumes me. So I thought I’d TRY to explain it. It’s going to be hard. Matters of the heart are difficult to put into words, but I’ll try my best and hopefully promote better understanding.
I say all the time, I LOVE Corey Hart, I LOVE John Axford, I LOVE T-Plush, I LOVE ZACK!!!!!!! What does that mean exactly? I’ll tell you what it doesn’t mean. It doesn’t mean I have a cleat-chasing crush on them. It doesn’t mean that I know them personally and have fallen in love with them in any kind of way. No, I guess the love that I declare is FAN love. I watch them play almost every day. I’m at Miller Park sitting in the front row, basically on the field with them…kinda …keeping score and feeling like I’m part of the team in a way – watching perfect curve balls, amazing defensive plays, spectacular offensive performances which lead to Brewers wins. My love is for their performances, yes, but it’s also for the players they are on the field and in the clubhouse. I guess I’m like a kid. Remember when you were a young baseball fan? And you thought these guys were Superstars? Well I still do! They are players in the game I love more than any other non-human thing on this Earth. They can play, I can’t. And not only can they play, they can play at a level that is unachievable for most people. They are amazing. They ARE Superstars! And perhaps with me you could go one step further. Miller Park is my church. It is heaven. So doesn’t that make the players angels? Not pretty angels with wings, but strong angels fighting for their cause. Archangels. Warriors. Perhaps I worship them. Yet I know they are human and they will struggle, and for that I love them even more.
I don’t know what else to say. I’m sure some of you think I’m taking it too far, but, as I’ve said before, matters of the heart do not follow the voice of reason. When it comes to Brewers baseball I’m emotional, I’m passionate, and, yeah, I’m probably more than a little crazy. That’s what makes me who I am. Take it or leave it. Understand it or don’t. It is what it is. My love.
